Radical Women. Art, Gender and Global Feminisms

This seminar will examine the relationship between art, feminism and gender through a range of global artistic practices since the 1960s and recent curatorial efforts to construct its history within new frameworks of feminism. This course will analyze key exhibitions, seminal art practices and recently published texts that are formulating the intersections between art and feminism. Together we will probe emerging concepts, debates and strategies emerging in this field and consider their generative possibilities. The aim is to develop a clear understanding of the recent turns in contemporary art and art history inflected by feminist thinking and its intersection with social and political engagement. Active and prepared participation is an essential part of this course. Please note that a maximum of two absences are allowed.
